This was my first magazine idea that I made:
I included a teal background to match with the artwork and cropped out some flowers from the original piece to frame the rest of the face on the second page so that I could eliminate the empty spaces.

I arranged the text in three descending lines for maximum space usage and the name 'Solar' in a singular line with fancy font encased in a white border.
Below you can see that I actually used three different screenshots of the same image but positioned it so that you can see the whole picture but through the lines.

In the second idea, I decided to go for a more muted colour scheme to contrast with the brightly coloured background of my artwork.

By doing so, this created a newspaper theme and so I used a font that fitted it accordingly.
The letter 'I' is actually larger that the other words 'WHO' and 'AM' to call attention to it. I also created a three blue lined design that embellishes the portrait and also in the centre of the article for some variation in the height of the columns.

In this third piece, I split my art in half and put one side on each respective side of the double page spread. I wanted to go for a less eyecatching colour scheme, therefore I removed the background and used an overall white one instead.
On one side, there are the words 'WHO' 'AM' 'I?' in big green boxes that are evenly spaced. And on the otherside, two big columns surround the other half of the portrait.
This creates an aesthetically pleasing design to the eye and goes well with the similarly simple dark green border. For the text columns, I used a pale pink colour as pink and green are complentary on the colour wheel.
I think next time I may haven chosen a different colour for the background instead of white as it feels quite empty.

Lastly for my fourth design, I used eyes from another one of my artworks that matched the same texture of 'painting style' as the artwork that I used as the main focus of the second side.

I used a pun for 'WHO EYE AM' slightly rearranging the word order for the meaning.
I think next time, I will blend out the sides of the images to make the page flow more seemlessly. And the text surrounding the face actually overcrowds the artwork being bottom heavy, so I added the same three line pattern but in pink to balance out the top.
The artwork of the eye isn't too neat as it was something I started off with a brush tool on a mouse freehandedly but I believe
in reusing artwork in other artwork, it gives it a newer meaning to when I would've usually discarded the work.
Conclusion:

Here are some of the issues I encountered:
-I found it inconvenient to have to rearrange the page into a doublepaged spread for every single magazine.
-deciding what font fitted was difficult as there are so many options but not any good enough ones already in InDesign.
-following the ideas I originally drew out on the scamps as a lot of them were dependant on new artword created for the piece which would've been extremely time consuming and I realised that a magazine should not in fact be 75% image and 25% text so I had to rearrange and rethink my positioning.
I did in the end incorporate some of the scamp ideas into the final pieces to show idea development.
