-directors role is to have a vision so the people working on it can be working for the same purpose and manage the whole film and crew.

-story team:

-first they make a script for the storyboard (comic book version of the film with thousands of sequences for the director to check)

-story panel then turned over to editorial panel

-editors

-do the story reading so directors can see the vision and they keep tabs on the whole film which then they do makeshift simple dialogue/ some music to tell the story so the storyboard becomes the foundation of the story and the team can envision the film.

-artists

-visual development artists

-they will sit down and create what the film looks like from environments to props to characters

-later to be approved by an art director and designers to make sure it fits the theme of the film

-modelling

-the modelling team build all the environments and props and characters into riggable elements

-anything physical that appears in the film.

-they take 2D art and give it volume to become 3D to sculpt the characters

-they get ideas from the artists and they wireframe (looking at the mesh overview without detailing) to make the character look good from every possible angle.

-riggers

-design how the characters move, they place fats muscles and joints like puppet makers. they make every physical deformity, skin etc.

-surfacing

-models are flat, surfacing models add texture and bumps and they determine the surface quality of the characters, how light interacts, how material looks, metal woods plastic, eg metal with scratches/ paint/ dust etc.

-rough layout,

-where film starts to come together

-the next part of production, after getting the storyboard they create it in a 3D space with the virtual camera

-3D version of an animatic, staging where things appear in the scene.

-final layout

-prepare the shots for animation (aniprep) to make high resolution version of the geometry.

-place characters in start position and send send to animation team to animate it.

-they get the set back and do the master shot

-then also do stereo pass where they set a stereo for the left and right eye and prepare the final composition to draw in the audience

-animators

-animators used to draw every scene by hand however, they now use a CG puppet with sometimes 3000 controls to stage out the scenes.

-Controls are used to make changes to the characters which can go up to 10,000 for a single character.

-Animation is like the actors, using references online, how they walk talk etc.

-crowds

-in charge of the extras of the scenes

-they do the things that the animators cannot finish eg. they use a few simple animations and put it together with a brain for the extras that looks like a crowd doing a multitude of actions.

-character events

-things that characters need moving that isn't the character itself. clothing, air resistance, objects they interact with, hair.

-FX - explosions, wreckage, demolition, footprints, leaves rustling in the wind, characters transforming, general problem solvers of the pipeline.

-matte painting

-skies clouds mountains cityscapes, the art department provides the colour set and they do paintings that put everything together by filling in the gaps of the scenes in the background.

-lighting

-they take the cameras models animation and surfacing

-then use computer lights and combined with matte painting to create final shot, trying to tell the story in a way that looks complete and engage the audience in the scene.

-image finaling

-they find problems or anything overlapping in a scene that needs tidying up.

-sound design

-complete music and sound, a composer creates the music and records the backing track with a live orchestra which then dialogue is mixed into.

-afterwards is marketing the film
