6th September 2023 meeting with company 'The Community Brain' (thecommunitybrain.org)

Overview:

The Community Brain (active for 12-13 years now) is a local project based in Surbiton (117 Brighton Road, Surbiton, KT6 5NJ) that focuses on creating new opportunities for people to celebrate their area, culture and stories and bringing together communities.

Project Coordinator Charlotte Levy, held a group meeting with Games Design students and their tutors to talk about the upcoming celebration of the 2023 MINI Cooper Project. Students are to create an interactive map, 30 second animation and posters and leaflets to promote the MINI Cooper car, especially highlighting its creation in Surbiton and the Monte Carlos Rally race victory from 1964, 60 years ago.

History:

The MINI Cooper was manufactured on Hollyfield Road in a garage in Surbiton where students are encouraged to take a look at the original site of the historical fact. There was talk of a Mini Cooper being stationed at Kingston College School for a week long drawing station where students could take inspiration from real life study. The MINI car was an icon of the 60s alongside the hit sensation rock band The Beatles who said 'you're one of us now' sent with a signed autograph -dedicated to the drivers of the winning MINI Cooper car of the Monte Carlos Rally race.

Main Events:

21st January - Waterloo Station

+ To celebrate the MINI Cooper, an event will be taking place in the prominent Waterloo Station in which student leaflet/ poster design work may be presented in order to promote for the cause.

18th May - Surbiton

+ the main event will be taking place in a few streets across Tolworth/ Surbiton, a few selected pieces of work (animation and interactive maps) will be displayed alongside live music from local bands and the Surbiton MINI Rally Race in which up to 150 Mini Cars will be displayed and/or racing against each other to bring together the community the iconic British car.
